An exciting update to share: Fifth-grader Abdul Hadi Shoaib has advanced to the regional round of the Scripps National Spelling Bee! He is among 17 local students who will participate in the regional competition, which will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday, March 8.
Earning the top spot in the WES Spelling Bee qualified Abdul Hadi to take a competitive 50-question online test that determined which spelling champions from area schools would move on to the SNSB Region 4 Regional Bee.
Top finishers from the Regional Bee will head to the National Spelling Bee in Washington, DC, in May. We wish Abdul Hadi the very best of luck!

Fun Fact: The Scripps National Spelling Bee celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Only nine spellers participated in the very first competition that took place back in 1925 in Washington, D.C.
