Throughout the school year, Watervliet Athletics will feature student athletes who demonstrate exemplary achievement in their respective sports.

Student athletes are recognized for demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout their respective sports seasons.

Nominated by their coaches in April 2024, our Athletes of the Month are senior Ayla Bagnardi and junior Nasir Lanier. Congratulations!

Ayla Bagnardi — Softball

Varsity softball coach Mike Bendon describes Ayla as a true leader.

“Ayla is the undisputed leader, role model, mentor and motivator on the team. Ayla has the passion to outwork everyone to achieve her goals and the dedication to run over anyone in her way to reach them. The softball program will definitely miss her next year.”

Nasir Lanier — Track and Field

Track coach Melique Garcia speaks highly of Nasir’s skills and performance as a competitor.

“Nasir has truly stepped into track and field as a rookie and grown into a champ. He jumped 6 feet in the high jump in only his third meet ever. He has a lot of untapped potential, and I can’t wait to see what he does in sectionals.”
