Children in Watervliet and Menands will soon receive a new pair of warm, cozy pajamas and a storybook thanks to the generosity of Watervliet Elementary School students, staff and local businesses.
During its 3rd annual Scholastic Pajama Drive, the school community was able to collect 36 pairs of pajamas and purchase another 125 pairs with donated funds to provide a total of 161 new pairs of sleepwear and a bedtime story to children.
The drive officially kicked off with “Wear Your Pajamas to School for $1 Day” on Friday, Dec. 7. Students were invited to either bring in a pair of pajamas or donate $1, and in exchange, the students were given an opportunity to spend the day learning while dressed in their PJs. Scholastic matches a book for every pair of donated pajamas as part of the drive.
The pajamas and books are being donated this year to the local non-profit “Pay It Forward,” which provides assistance to families in need, and will distribute the pajamas and books to children in the community for the holidays.
Special thanks to the following businesses and individuals for their generous donations that made the pajama fundraiser such a success:
- Goldstein Subaru, Albany
- Kyle’s Kidz Korner, Watervliet
- 3 Brother’s Pizza LLC, Latham
- Cafe Deli-icious, Troy
