Lockdown drills were completed today, Thursday, Dec. 2, at both the Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School and the Watervliet Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., respectively.
The Watervliet Police Department and first responders from the Watervliet Fire Department participated in the lockdown drills at both buildings.
Lockdown drills are among several emergency drills that occur throughout the school year. These drills provide students and staff members an opportunity to practice safety procedures.
Fire alarm at WJSHS
Also this morning, at approximately 9:30 a.m., a fire alarm was set off at Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School when a sensor detected steam in an enclosed area of the basement. Students and staff evacuated the building and waited outside as the Watervliet Fire Department checked for the source of the alarm. Students and staff re-entered the building just before 10 a.m. after firefighters gave the all clear. Some minor water damage was reported in that area of the basement.
