ExTRA Summer Academy provides academic support, enrichment activities for K-8 students

Summer learning is now underway in Watervliet.

Watervliet’s K-8 ExTRA Summer Academy engages students in reading, math, art and physical education.

Grades 7-8 students put their teamwork and critical thinking skills to the test this summer as they work to solve problems and explore various learning opportunities in the Capital Region with field trips to places like the New York State Military Museum, Saratoga Battlefield, Dyken Pond and the Tech Valley Center for Gravity in Troy.

The grant-funded summer programs focuses on increasing academic achievement by providing English Language Arts and math skills, while combining fun enrichment activities in art, physical education and library/technology.

The ExTRA Summer Academy runs Monday through Friday from July 9 to August 10. For any questions, contact the Summer School Principal, Don Stevens at 518-629-3263.

Watervliet partners with South Colonie School District to offer summer school for eligible students

Once again the Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School is partnering with the South Colonie Central School District this year to offer summer school tuition-free for students in grades 7-10 who meet the eligibility criteria.

Watervliet administrators and school counselors reviewed students’ grades to determine which students met the criteria for attending summer school classes in Colonie. Download South Colonie Summer School program brochure

The summer program will take place four-days per week (Mondays through Thursdays), beginning Monday, July 9 and ending Tuesday, August 17.

Transportation will be provided via a single bus run that will pick up students at Watervliet Jr./Sr. High School promptly at 7:00 a.m. for travel to Sand Creek Middle School. The bus will return students to Watervliet by 11:30 a.m.

Watervliet students who do not meet the eligibility criteria may enroll in summer school programs through South Colonie or other neighboring public school districts; however, parents or guardians will be responsible for tuition or fees associated with those summer programs. Students must have written permission from the guidance department to apply for summer school entrance to a specific course or courses. All district students must still meet academic and attendance levels to enroll in any summer school course even out of the district.
