Grades 7-8 ExTRA program

Watervliet ExTRA is an after-school program designed to provide Homework Help as well as engaging fun club activities to students in grades 7-8 at Watervliet Junior High School who are selected to participate. Students will have the opportunity to receive homework assistance three afternoons per week, followed by their choice of enrichment activities ranging from drama and art clubs to STEM/Robotics. The Watervliet Junior/Senior High School policy states that any student who is failing two or more subjects may not participate in extracurricular activities and/or sports (Group A: Homework Help Required). This program will help structure students so that they can pass all classes s this will provide them multiple opportunities to reinforce their academic skills and complete homework throughout the week, and if they choose, to explore a range of extracurricular options available after they have completed their academic work.

Students are selected for Homework Help based on academic and attendance records from the 2017-18 school year. Participation in club activities from 3:30-4:30 p.m. is encouraged but not required.

The ExTRA program’s club activities are available to any grades 7-8 student who wishes to participate. Please note: signed permission slips are required for students to participate.

The ExTRA program takes place from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, beginning Monday, October 1. A healthy snack will be supplied free of charge, and bus transportation will be available at the end of the program each day for those students who qualify for regular bus transportation.
