We have learned of the following positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community since our last update on Thursday, April 14, prior to spring break:
- Five (5) from Watervliet Elementary School, and
- Two (2) from Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School.
For daily positive COVID-19 cases affecting our district, visit the NYS COVID-19 Report Card.
The uptick in case numbers is not surprising given that the CDC has identified Albany County as a high level of COVID-19 community transmission (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/community-levels.html) based on the most recent data. While not required, face masks are recommended for use indoors. We continue to make face masks available at the main entrances of each building.
Please be aware of the layered mitigation protocols that remain in effect for our schools, including 3’ social distancing, limiting school visitors, increasing air circulation, and routine cleaning/disinfecting. Rapid and surveillance COVID-19 testing is available in our nurses’ offices and vaccinations are readily available through Whitney Young in our school based health clinic.
Important reminders
As we return to the school routine, we remind students and staff of the importance of hand hygiene, social distancing, opening windows, and sanitizing desks and learning spaces. We strongly encourage these practices for the health and safety of students and staff.
Also, please remember that symptomatic students and staff members should NOT come to school. Similarly, it is important for families to keep child(ren) home from school if they are exhibiting COVID symptoms: Fever or chills; cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fatigue; muscle or body aches; headaches; new loss of taste or smell; sore throat; congestion or runny nose; nausea or vomiting; or diarrhea.
Your cooperation and support of our schools is appreciated as we continue to work together to make this a safe, healthy and successful school year for our students, staff and families. Thank you.
