Watervliet City Schools will conduct a Practice Remote (Virtual) Learning Day on Tuesday, Nov. 24 for ALL students (in-person and remote learners). This practice day will help prepare students, families, teachers and staff in the event some classrooms, a school or the entire district needs to move to 100-percent remote (virtual) learning due to COVID-19, or we need to shift to remote instruction as a result of inclement weather this winter.
What this means for students on November 24
- PreK-12 in-person students will learn from home.
- PreK in-person learners will use their “Go Home Bags” already sent home and may attend virtual classes using a home device; follow the schedule and meeting links on the class Google Classrooms.

- Grades 1-12 in-person learners will log in to their Chromebooks and follow their virtual class schedule as listed in their Google Classrooms and complete posted activities in their Google Classrooms.
- No change for K-12 virtual learners. Students will log in to their Chromebooks as usual and follow their virtual class schedule as listed in their Google Classrooms and complete posted activities in their Google Classrooms.
- BOCES Career & Technical Education students will continue in-person at the CTE campus and transportation will still be provided. All high school classes will be virtual.

Why have a practice a virtual learning day?
“It is important for our students and teachers to have an opportunity to practice learning and teaching from home should we need to close school due to COVID-19 or a snow event,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lori Caplan.
In advance of the practice day, teachers are using in-person class time to reinforce technology skills with in-person learners, such as logging in to their devices and connecting to Google Classroom and accessing online learning materials.
“This practice day will give our in-person students and their families a chance to work through expectations for remote learning, and it will also give us the ability to identify and correct any issues with technology or connectivity ahead of time, if or when we have to move to a fully remote/virtual learning situation,” Dr. Caplan added.
