Throughout the school year, Watervliet Athletics will feature student athletes who demonstrate exemplary achievement in their respective sports.
Student athletes are recognized for demonstrating good sportsmanship throughout their respective sports seasons. Nominated by their coaches, our Athletes of the Month for October are Kasiah Poole, Jaden Sierra and Murtaza Ziaee. Congratulations!
Kasiah Poole — Varsity Football
Varsity football head coach Mike Oliver describes Kasiah as a hard worker and a team leader.
“Kasiah Poole is a great teammate. He works hard in practice and has been excelling on the football field. He has scored 8 touchdowns in the last two weeks. He is a true leader on and off the field.”
Jaden Sierra — Varsity Volleyball
Varsity volleyball coach Michele DeGuire recognizes Jaden’s skills on the court as well as her dedication to the team.
“Jaden returned to the Varsity Volleyball program and has made an instant positive impact on the team. She brings heart and dedication to the team, as well as using her court awareness to maximize her teammates’ strengths at the most opportune times. She has quickly accumulated 72 assists as the setter, but more impressively, she has had 26 kills on 33 attempts. In addition, she currently has accumulated 29 aces (31%) of her 93 attempts.”
Murtaza Ziaee — Varsity Soccer
Varsity soccer coach Brian Ford applauds the effort that Murtaza makes during practices and games alike.
“Murtaza has consistently given effort in games and practices since the first day of practice. He reliably plays the full match and has scored one goal in each of our first three games this season.”
