This year, Watervliet introduced an innovative alternative education program called ‘EVOLVE’ for high school students who have struggled with success in the traditional school setting. This program offers a supportive environment with smaller class sizes, allowing for more personalized attention to help students excel academically while building meaningful connections with teachers and their peers.
As with any new program, there have been some growing pains and some adjustments made to meet student needs. “It’s not a perfect science,” said Kirsten Demento, a district administrator who helped with EVOLVE’s implementation and continues to work closely with the program, “but the opportunities and the support that is being provided to these students is truly making a difference.”
