For the first time in school history — a Watervliet student’s artwork has been has been accepted to the High School Regional Juried Art Exhibition!
Junior Abdullah Mazhar’s artwork, an 18″x24″ still life created with charcoal on a corrugated cardboard panel, was selected for the annual exhibit, which showcases the best works of art by high school students throughout the Capital Region.
Abdullah is currently studying Advanced Art with Watervliet Jr.-Sr. High School teacher Caitlyn Santiago, who submitted Abdullah’s art, in addition to work by three other students, to the annual art show.
“This is our first time submitting work to the High School Regional art show and Abdullah is the first student to ever have work accepted,” Mrs. Santiago said. “This is an enormous honor and accomplishment!”
Of the nearly 600 works submitted from 28 Capital Region high schools, Abdullah’s was one of 103 pieces of art chosen for the exhibit by a trio of artist/educators after several hours of judging.
Congratulations Abdullah!
