Grades 4-6 after-school program

Watervliet ExTRA is an after-school program designed to provide academic support as well as engaging extracurricular activities to students in grades 4-6 at Watervliet Elementary School who are selected to participate. The program offers students the opportunity to receive homework assistance three afternoons per week followed by enrichment activities, which include art club, drama club and STEM-robotics.  See club descriptions

Each student enrolled in Homework Help is expected to attend all sessions as this will provide them multiple opportunities to reinforce their academic skills and complete homework throughout the week, and to explore fun extracurricular options available after they have completed their academic work.

The ExTRA program is being funded by an Extended School Day/ School Violence Prevention Grant from the New York State Education Department. There is no cost to families of Watervliet Elementary School students who are selected to participate. It is important to note that student participation in ExTRA programs and enrichment opportunities is on a first-come first-served basis with priority given to students who are at-risk academically. All students must have the approval of parents to participate in Watervliet ExTRA programs. Enrollment for this program is governed by fiscal parameters determined by the state.

The ExTRA program takes place from 2:40-4:40 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays each week, beginning Monday, October 3. A healthy snack will be supplied free of charge, and bus transportation will be available at the end of the program each day for those students who qualify for regular bus transportation.
